4. Powerful theories, if it bleeds it leads

Ok, before I get to a few deeply religious thinkers, let’s remind ourselves how this works:

Official, powerful theories come from industry sanctioned positions of authority and big money. As stated in my previous blogs, an idea has to be subsidised in order to take root. We could say that we follow a “Diet by Media” in so many ways.

We should now be aware that corporations may only look after their material interests, they must create profit, regardless of the true cost to individuals and society. Corporations spend big on advertising. Media looks after clients that use their advertising services. Big spenders in our Media Diet will not be critiqued. Our knowledge of the information processes will protect us from new scientific trends promoted on the mainstream media.

Scary medical stories create fear

We must also be aware that we are suckers for scary medical stories. If it bleeds, it leads, they would say in the media ivory towers. We are fed a steady diet of fear inducing headlines in the newspapers and TV. Fear makes us more suggestable. We worry so much that we may fall into a pathological trance.

Loop Trance Thinking

Loop trance thinking is constantly asking oneself, how am I doing? This loop trance thinking might present like this: “oh, pain, not happy, sleepy, bloated, tired, depressed, well, then I must see my doctor, or buy something”. We create hundreds of what if scenarios that place us into the black and white thinking space. What we imagine creates our world-view, beliefs and actions.

Modern media and side effects

Our modern media points out strategic problems and also presents solutions. Solutions created by the corporations that have most often created the problem in the first place. Think of industrial food, herbicides, MSG, seed oils, sugar, soft drinks and legal drug created side-effects that must be treated by more drugs.

I once treated a patient complaining (in his own words) “of constant feeling of flu like symptoms”, headache, nausea, fatigue, sleep problems etc No herbs or acupuncture or even change in diet offered much help. After a few treatments and me asking about other issues, he remembered the fact that he has been taking “Zantac” for reflux. Well, the list of side effects for Zantac mirrors all his symptoms. He changed his diet, stopped taking Zantac and the symptoms cleared.

Pharma

Johnson and Johnson, a multinational, medical devices, pharmaceutical manufacturing company with a revenue of 76.45 billion dollars, spends more money on marketing than on research. In 2015, 17.5 billion dollars was spent on advertising and only 8.2 on research and development. If marketing is the art of selling a product, all that money from just one pharmaceutical company must have implanted a lot of essential, “I must have that” product images in our minds.

Very powerful Book

In his 2013 book “Deadly medicines and Organised Crime”, Peter Gotzsche quotes a former vice-president of Pfizer:

“It is scary how many similarities there are between this industry and the mob. The mob makes obscene amounts of money, as does this industry. The side effects of organized crime are killings and deaths, and the side effects are the same in this industry. The mob bribes politicians and others, and so does the drug industry…”

We can again ask; how did we get to this point of widespread chronic diseases and obesity? Didn’t our ancestors know how to eat and how to have healthy children?

In order to accept the food industry as serious authority, old ancestral knowledge of food use and preparation had to be depicted as primitive.

The only way to escape the power of big business sanctioned advice (diet by media) is to become our own doctors.

In the next post, I still have more information on the history of dietary advice!
